How Much Does a Liquidation Pallet Cost? Price Ranges by Category

Ask this online and you get a useless answer: it depends. Fair enough, but you came for real numbers, so here they are, category by category, with the caveats built in instead of buried. How much does a liquidation pallet cost comes down to three things: what product is on the pallet, what condition it is in, and whether you can see a manifest before you pay. A mixed general-merchandise return pallet might run a few hundred dollars. A pallet of tested, graded electronics can pass five figures. Same word, "pallet," wildly different price. The useful skill is learning which levers move the number, so you can read a listing and guess the cost before you scroll to it.

Why There Is No Single Sticker Price

A liquidation pallet price is really a bundle of four decisions the seller already made before you saw the load.

Condition and sourcing. Overstock and shelf pulls, which are unsold and often unopened, cost more than customer returns, which cost more than salvage. A returns pallet is cheaper because you are pricing in the dud rate. A written 95% sellable guarantee changes that math, because you are no longer gambling on how much of the load is trash.

Manifest or no manifest. A manifested pallet with a line-item list and retail values costs more than a quote-only mystery load, because you are paying for certainty. Unmanifested loads are cheaper per pallet but riskier per unit. If you are weighing that trade, manifested vs unmanifested pallets breaks down when each format wins.

Category. This is the big one, and it is the rest of this article.

Retail value and volume. Sellers price against the estimated retail on the load, usually a fraction of it. Bigger orders and truckloads pull the per-pallet cost down. Many lots carry no forced high-minimum quota, so you can start with one pallet and scale once you know your real sell-through.

Treat everything below as illustrative ranges, not quotes. Real numbers move with condition, brand mix, and how fresh the load is. Each figure is an example of where pallets in that category commonly land.

General merchandise and Amazon returns

The entry point for most new resellers. Mixed-category return pallets, the classic Amazon returns load, often sit in the low-to-mid hundreds per pallet, because the retail is spread across dozens of small, unpredictable items. You are buying variety and a low cost basis, not a curated assortment. Great for bin stores and live sellers who thrive on surprise, harder if you need to forecast exact resale.

Electronics

The widest spread on the board. A pallet of untested small electronics and accessories can be a few hundred dollars. Tested, working, higher-end electronics, phones, tablets, graded devices, climb fast into the thousands and beyond. Condition grading is everything here. "Tested and working" costs a multiple of "untested, as-is," and that gap is the single biggest driver of an electronics pallet cost.

Clothing and apparel

Usually one of the cheaper categories by the pallet, because apparel is bulky and per-unit retail is low. Brand mix is the swing factor. A mixed off-brand clothing pallet is inexpensive, while a load heavy on recognizable brands or current-season shelf pulls costs more. Grade, A/B versus mixed, matters as much as the label on the tag.

Footwear and sneakers

Priced above generic apparel because shoes hold resale value and buyers hunt by size and brand. Mixed footwear pallets run moderate; loads weighted toward name-brand or premium sneakers command a premium. Boxed, sorted-by-size pallets cost more than loose, unsorted ones, and they are worth it if you sell online, where returns for wrong sizing quietly eat margin.

Cosmetics, beauty, and fragrance

Small items, high retail density, so a physically small pallet can carry serious retail value and price accordingly. Brand-name cosmetics and fragrance lots, including Victoria's Secret mist and body-care lots, sit higher than generic beauty because the sell-through is fast and the brands are searchable. Watch expiration dating and testers; that is what separates a cheap beauty pallet from a pricey one.

Personal care and HPC

The steady category. Toothpaste, deodorant, hair care, body wash, over-the-counter basics. Pallet costs are moderate and predictable because the products are everyday consumables people rebuy on schedule. Lower ceiling than electronics, but the floor is solid and the turnover is fast, which is exactly why repeat buyers keep them in the mix.

Appliances

Big-ticket, big-price. Scratch-and-dent and returned appliances, refrigerators, washers, AC units, run high per pallet simply because the underlying retail is high. Freight is heavy and the handling is real, so factor both in before the sticker price fools you into thinking the margin is bigger than it is.

Tools

Power tools hold value well, so tool pallets, the Makita, DeWalt, and Milwaukee-type loads, price on the higher side of mid. Buyers pay up for brand-name tools, and returns in this category are often fully functional, which keeps the effective cost per sellable unit reasonable even when the pallet itself is not cheap.

Toys, handbags, and accessories

Toys are seasonal, so the same pallet costs more in Q3 heading into the holidays than it does in January. Handbags and accessories price on brand and condition, ranging from cheap mixed lots to premium branded loads. These are timing categories: buy the toy pallet when it is cheap, sell when demand is hot.

The Costs the Pallet Price Hides

The pallet price is not your landed cost. Two line items catch new buyers off guard.

Freight comes first. A pallet going to a residential address without a dock racks up lift-gate, residential-delivery, and redelivery surcharges on top of the base LTL rate. For buyers without a loading dock, a pallet breakdown service that splits the load into individually boxed, ground-shipped parcels is often cheaper and faster than freight on the exact same inventory.

Duties and forwarding come second, and they land hardest on international buyers. Ship to a US forwarder and you still owe the forwarder's fee plus destination duty on top of the pallet price, so run those through the landed-cost calculator before you call a load affordable. A buyer in Lagos and a buyer in Ohio can look at the same pallet cost and end up with very different real numbers. A cheap pallet with an expensive landed cost is not a cheap pallet.

Run the whole picture through the pallet ROI estimator before you commit, so the pallet cost, freight, and expected resale sit on one screen instead of three napkins. And if the real question behind the price is whether the numbers net out, are liquidation pallets profitable walks the margin math end to end.

See Real Prices, Not Ranges

Ranges are a starting point; live listings are the answer. Browse current wholesale pallets with a category and retail estimate on each one, or scan the full load list to compare price against what is actually inside. When a load looks right for your market, open an email quote and lock the number before it sells. Volume discounts apply as you scale, so the pallet cost you start with is rarely the pallet cost you settle at.
